MDA For Strength Independence & Life

Help Through Services and Support

MDA is committed to helping kids and adults with muscle-debilitating diseases live longer and grow stronger. We offer numerous services and resources in hometowns across America that provide care, support and guidance through every step of your journey.

Support Groups

"MDA provides a multitude of support groups. We’re able to sit down in a private setting and share our experiences with other families. By doing so, we realize that we’re not alone, and we actually realize that if we can start sharing information with others and helping others, that we also can help ourselves." — Jeff, father of a child with myotonic muscular dystrophy

MDA stands alongside our families, implementing vital initiatives to assist and empower the kids and adults we serve. In hometowns across America, MDA offers support groups — including many that are disease-specific and others that are topic-focused, such as groups for caregivers, parents, grief and loss, transitions, etc. In the support group setting, you and/or your loved ones can share everything from tears and laughter, to medical and financial tips, and travel stories and recipes. More importantly, you’ll find a sense of fellowship and a personal connection that strengthens everyone involved.

The families you meet at MDA support groups are living this experience with you. Lean on them, learn from others, and call them when you need to talk or need help. You’ll find others leaning on, and learning from, you too. Your local MDA staff can let you know about the types of support groups offered in your area, as well as provide up-to-date meeting schedules and locations. You can obtain local MDA contact information via the Find MDA in Your Community ZIP code locator tool found on the left side of this page.

Support and fellowship also are available through MDA's online communities on Facebook and Twitter.
