MDA Special Events
MDA Muscle Walk is a life-changing event that strengthens families and communities. In more than 150 hometowns across America, every event includes a 1- to 3.1-mile lap designed for participants of all ages and abilities, including a wheelchair and equipment friendly course. Leading up to the event, participants and teams fundraise to help MDA find research breakthroughs across diseases, care for kids and adults from day one and empower families with services and support to live longer and grow stronger. Muscle Walk is more than a fundraising walk. It’s a powerful experience that forges lifelong connections, celebrates families and the barriers they overcome and turns hope into answers. Team Momentum is MDA’s endurance training program that empowers individuals of all athletic abilities to train for a half or full marathon while supporting kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases. Participants dedicate their miles, muscles and personal finish line to freeing families from the harm of muscle-debilitating diseases that take away everyday freedoms like walking, running, hugging and even breathing. Team members receive access to a world-class customized training program, experienced coaches and a committed community of support to keep them inspired. Every mile and every dollar raised along the journey helps MDA fund groundbreaking research across diseases, care for kids and adults from day one and empower families with services and support in hometowns across America. MDA's iconic St. Patrick's Day fundraiser is supported by more than 25,000 retailers in hometowns across America to bring strength, independence and life to kids and adults with muscular dystrophy and related life-threatening diseases. Customers purchase a paper MDA shamrock at checkout for $1, $5 or a larger contribution to help individuals live longer and grow stronger. MDA provides all materials to participating retailers, including the paper shamrocks for customers and employees to put their name on to display after making a donation. The MDA Hop-a-Thon program is an educational special event for preschool through second-grade children at day care centers, preschools and elementary schools. The program offers a weeklong disability awareness lesson plan; hands-on activities for children with books and a video; and other free educational materials. Learn more.
