Statement from the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Servier’s Announcement of Topline Results in Becker Muscular Dystrophy Study
Chicago, IL, Tuesday, November 3, 2026 – The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) recognizes the significance of today’s announcement from Servier regarding the topline results of the Phase 3 GRAND CANYON study evaluating sevasemten in Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD). The 18-month, global, placebo-controlled clinical trial evaluated the safety and efficacy of sevasemten in adults with BMD. The study did not meet its primary endpoint, demonstrating no statistically significant benefit on the North Star Ambulatory Assessment (NSAA), and did not meet its secondary endpoints.

While we are disappointed that this trial did not demonstrate efficacy in adults with BMD, clinical research advances our understanding of the disease and informs the path forward. The GRAND CANYON study has contributed to advancements in outcome measures and clinical trial design that can help inform future research. We learn from every trial conducted, and the knowledge gained is an important part of advancing the science and developing future treatment opportunities for the BMD community.
For people and families living with BMD, every clinical trial represents hope and an important investment in the future. We extend our appreciation to the trial participants, families, caregivers, investigators, and research teams whose commitment and contributions make clinical research possible.
To help address questions and provide the community with more information, MDA plans to host an educational webinar featuring members of the Servier team. The webinar will provide an opportunity to hear directly from the company about the GRAND CANYON results, learn more about the study design and findings, and ask questions. Additional details about the webinar, including registration information, will be shared as they become available.
MDA remains deeply committed to advancing research, accelerating the development of meaningful treatments, and supporting the BMD community through every stage of the research journey. MDA will continue working alongside the broader community to elevate patient perspectives, support education and awareness, and help ensure the families we serve have access to credible, timely information as additional data becomes available.
