Lowe’s Supports MDA Shamrocks Program and Summer Camps to Help Families and Children with Muscular Dystrophy

CHICAGO, Feb. 16, 2016 — Lowe’s stores nationwide unite to participate in the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s iconic Shamrocks program now through March 31. This year marks 15 years of Lowe’s Shamrocks support that helps improve lives in communities across the country and build stronger futures for kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases that severely weaken muscle strength and mobility.

“Lowe’s employees know that selling MDA Shamrocks will raise funds that will help MDA provide its families with the critical resources they need to live longer and grow stronger,” said James Frison, Lowe’s director of community relations. “Our employees also take great pride in giving thousands of kids with muscle-debilitating diseases a life-changing, barrier-free experience by supporting and volunteering at MDA Summer Camps.”

Throughout the campaign, Lowe’s customers are invited to join the nation’s largest St. Patrick’s Day fundraising program by adding paper Shamrocks to their purchase at check-out for $1, $5 or a larger contribution – all benefiting MDA. The Shamrocks are then displayed in unique and creative ways at the stores, showing Lowe’s support to help kids and adults living with neuromuscular diseases.

“MDA is grateful to have the support of a company like Lowe’s that goes above and beyond to bring strength, independence and life to the individuals we serve,” said MDA Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer Ann McNamara. “It is with the help of Lowe’s generous employees and customers who support the Shamrocks program each year that MDA is able to provide families affected by muscle-debilitating diseases with the care they need today, while helping to make tomorrow free from the diseases themselves. We hope to make 2016 our biggest year yet.”

Last year, Lowe’s raised $7.5 million during the MDA Shamrocks program, reaching the $50 million mark in overall funds raised since first teaming up with MDA in 2001.

Funds raised through MDA Shamrocks sales help MDA find research breakthroughs across neuromuscular diseases; provide care for kids and adults from day one; and empower its families with services and support. Donations also help give thousands of children the opportunity to experience the best week of the year where anything is possible at MDA Summer Camp at no cost to their families.
