Meet Some of Our MDA Families

  • A picture of Leo.

    Meet Leo

This is Leo! He is a curious, thoughtful, helpful 8-year-old. Leo lives with his parents, his nana, and his 3 dogs. He enjoys playing video games and telling jokes. He also loves to read, especially Magic Tree House books, joke books, and facts about trains. At the age of 10 months Leo was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and several months after that he was also diagnosed with mild right-sided cerebral palsy. Leo's uncle, Ryan, whom he never met, also had DMD. Leo's nana and mom are both carriers. Leo hopes to spread awareness for DMD, as well as help other families see that you can live a full and happy life while living with a neuromuscular disease. Leo’s mom shares, “We are all in this together, and the importance of community, as well as the many resources, research, and technology available today is how we as families impacted by neuromuscular disease will thrive.” Leo is a ray of sunshine with the overall goal to spread hope.

  • A picture of Kenzie.

    Meet Kenzie

Seven-year-old Kenzie loves pink, riding horses, her baby brother Rylan, Barbies, and playing with all her friends. She shares her home with many animals including cows, horses, and dogs! Kenzie is living with spinal muscular atrophy which was discovered through newborn screening just days after she was born. She immediately began early treatment for SMA which has helped to slow the progression of symptoms. Kenzie is able to walk on her own but still faces challenges with strength, endurance, and stability. MDA has led Kenzie to connect with a community that understands the challenges she faces. Kenzie and her family want to spread hope and encourage others to continue to keep driving research forward to develop new treatments. Kenzie’s mom says, "Kenzie is a great example of a little ray of sunshine – it’s hard to imagine the world without her – so I hope her very existence can bring a smile to everyone’s face!"

  • A picture of Tasha.

An accomplished Manager of Strategic Sourcing with over 15 years of experience, Tasha enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with loved ones.
