Muscular Dystrophy Association Announces 2024 Muscle Walks in Local Communities Nationwide to Empower Families Living with Muscular Dystrophy, ALS, and Related Neuromuscular Diseases

NEW YORK – February 22, 2024 -- Thousands of people across the country will participate in Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) MDA Muscle Walk events throughout the year (schedule below). Registration is now open for participants to set up their team to raise funds for MDA’s mission. MDA Muscle Walk is an extraordinary opportunity for families and communities to come together. Participation helps propel crucial research forward, broadens access to specialized care, and supports the rights of the neuromuscular disease community for access and inclusion. Volunteer opportunities to support these events are available here.

Families have been participating in this program for decades, and newcomers like Team Milo joined MDA Muscle Walk last year, and said, "Sharing our son's diagnosis was challenging, but the encouragement from friends and the wider community was a beacon of hope. It reminded us that we're supported by a strong network, which is invaluable in navigating life's challenges."

"We're excited to grow the MDA Muscle Walk program in 2024, bringing communities together in cities across the country. We’re also providing an option for families to engage on their own timeline through the virtual option of ‘Muscle Walk Your Way’ in addition to volunteer opportunities to support the events. Our mission is to connect MDA families and volunteers in the communities they live in. Together we are raising funds to accelerate treatments and advance care for people living with neuromuscular disease," said Brittany Minke, Director, Peer to Peer Events, MDA.

Last year, over 2,200 people nationwide raised $869,000 through the MDA Muscle Walk program. Throughout 2024, MDA will promote these events on national social media channels @MDAorg using #MuscleWalk #WhyIwalk.
