IAFF Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire Announce 38th Annual Trans-New Hampshire Bike Ride June 20-22 to benefit Muscular Dystrophy Association
MDA Ambassador Fred Graves, who lives with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy, will be honored at the event.
Concord, New Hampshire – Monday, April 28, 2025, Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) today announced the 38th Annual Trans-New Hampshire Bike Ride (TNHBR) to be held on Friday, June 20 through Sunday, June 22. Full itinerary for the route here. Registration for the TNHBR is now open here, and participants are encouraged to sign up early to secure their spot. The fully supported three-day bicycle ride through New Hampshire benefits MDA's mission to accelerate research, advance care, and advocate to empower families living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases. Each year this ride is dedicated to a person living with neuromuscular disease. This year's honoree is MDA Ambassador, Fred Graves who lives with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy. Read more here.
“Being diagnosed with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy has made me a stronger self-advocate, and that drive is what fuels my passion to give back as an MDA Ambassador. I’m incredibly honored to be recognized during the IAFF Trans-New Hampshire Bike Ride—an event that shows just how powerful our community can be when we come together. Living with a disability comes with challenges, but also with purpose. You learn to ask: ‘Do I give up, or do I fight for what I need and deserve?’ What inspires me most is knowing that people living with muscular dystrophy are living full lives. With the right allies—like the IAFF riders, MDA families, and supporters across the country—we can go even further. The support we receive through MDA programming brightens the lives of so many families, including mine. Thank you for riding, for fundraising, and for believing in a future where we can one day cure this disease,” said Fred Graves, MDA Ambassador.
The funds raised at this event help advance multidisciplinary care for people living with neuromuscular disease at over 150 MDA Care Center Network locations in the U.S. and advance research and access for families living with neuromuscular conditions. In New Hampshire, MDA Care Centers are located at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Manchester. MDA serves over 8,600 people living with neuromuscular disease throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.
“Since 2015, there have been more than 25 new FDA approved treatments for many types of neuromuscular diseases and there are more on the horizon. We would not be able to fund our mission for the families we serve without the partnership and dedication of people like Michael Roberts and the IAFF Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire,” said Jennie King, Vice President, Fire Fighter Partnership at MDA.
In a recent feature in IAFF magazine Michael Roberts, PFFNH MDA Liaison, event co-organizer, and active-retired Londonderry Local 3160 member said, “I may be a little biased, but this really is such a great event between the instant camaraderie that the riders develop to the incredible amount of money we are able to raise for Muscular Dystrophy Association every year. Thanks to all our riders and support staff, we have raised more than $4 million to help neuromuscular disease research and to discover new treatments.”

About the Trans-New Hampshire Bike Ride
The Trans-NH Bike Ride is a fully supported 1, 2, or 3-day exploration of New Hampshire roads, scenery, and fire stations. Its mission is to raise funds and awareness for people living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases. Every June, cyclists, firefighters, support volunteers, and members of the Muscular Dystrophy Association community come together to traverse New Hampshire – rain or shine – to support a shared vision: accelerate research, advance care, and advocate for the support of MDA families. We fundraise, connect with our community, recognize the hardships of these diseases, and ride to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s mission to empower the people they serve to live longer, more independent lives. All proceeds from the ride go directly to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to fund research, summer camps, and other services for those affected by muscular dystrophy. To date, the Trans-NH Bike Ride has contributed more than $4 million to MDA’s mission. Learn more about the different types of muscular dystrophy including Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD), Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD), and others.
