Investigators Open Phase 2
Idebenone Study in Friedreich’s Ataxia

Investigators at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Md., say study participants with Friedreich’s ataxia were able to tolerate 60 milligrams per kilogram of body weight per day of idebenone for at least a month in their phase 1 study.

They’re now recruiting 48 adolescents and children, ages 9-17, with Friedreich’s ataxia for a phase 2 study that will last six months and compare idebenone to a placebo (inert substance). Participants must weigh between 66 and 176 pounds.

For information, see www.mda.org/research/view_ctrial.aspx?id=149, or contact the NIH Patient Recruitment and Public Liaison Office at (800) 411-1222 or prpl@mail.cc.nih.gov.
