INTRODUCTION (for parents)

A child with muscular dystrophy needs special attention -- and so does every member of his family, including his sisters and brothers. "HEY I'M HERE, TOO!" was written to help siblings of boys with muscular dystrophy explore how they feel about themselves, their brothers and their families. It also provides them with specific answers to some questions they may be wondering about.

With your encouragement, this booklet will open lines of communication that will let all of your children know that you're listening to them and want to help. Many parents should read this booklet aloud to their children, because it also gives them the opportunity to engage their children in a discussion of muscular dystrophy. If your child wants to read "HEY I'M HERE, TOO!" Alone, it's suggested that you encourage him or her to talk over the material with you.
