If your doctor suspects that you or your child may have muscular dystrophy, look in your phone directory under "Muscular Dystrophy Association" and call your local MDA office. The local office can make an appointment for you at the nearest MDA clinic.

The most important first step is to establish a definite diagnosis, which is done by skilled specialists at MDA's 220 hospital-affiliated clinics, almost all of which are in major medical centers.

Through your MDA clinic, you can obtain orthopedic aids, physical and respiratory therapy, medications, genetic counseling and other services related to your or your child's condition.

Through your local MDA office, you can participate in support groups and recreational outings, as well as stay informed about new developments in diagnosis and treatment of muscular dystrophy.

For a detailed description of MDA services, please see the publication, "MDA Services for the Individual, Family and Community." To call your local MDA office, look in your telephone directory under Muscular Dystrophy Association, or use the locator on this Web site.
