CLUBS NATIONWIDE TAKE PART IN WORLD'S LARGEST SINGLE-DAY GOLF, DINING EVENT
TUCSON, Ariz., Sept. 23, 2009 – ClubCorp, the preeminent owner and operator of private golf, country, business and sports clubs, will host it’s Third Annual ClubCorp Charity Classic, at clubs from California to New York in the world’s largest one-day, multi-site charity golf and dining event, Friday, Sept. 25.
More than 120 ClubCorp private golf clubs, country clubs, business clubs and sports clubs across the country will conduct events open to the public including golf tournaments on over 2,000 holes of golf, tennis tournaments, culinary demonstrations and silent and live auctions.
The nationwide affair is expected to involve more than 25,000 club members, guests and patrons, all with the goal of raising more than $2 million for national and local nonprofit causes. Last year’s event raised more than $675,000 for MDA’s Augie’s Quest.
A third of the proceeds will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Augie’s Quest ALS research initiative, an aggressive effort to find treatments and cures for the paralyzing disease ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease).
Augie Nieto, who along with his wife, Lynne, co-chair MDA’s ALS Division, said, “I’m grateful to ClubCorp for continuing this tradition for the third consecutive year.” “The ClubCorp executive team, staff and members are all making a huge difference in the fight against ALS,” he said. Nieto received an ALS diagnosis in 2005.
One third of the funds raised by the Classic will go to ClubCorp’s Employee Partners Care Foundation, a fund created to help the organization’s employees and families during times of crisis. The remaining third will be allocated to a local or national charity according to the wishes of each club.
“At a time when people might expect us to cut back on hosting fundraising events, we are leveraging the momentum of the last two years and reaching for a higher level of giving,” ClubCorp President and CEO Eric Affeldt said. “Since the needs of our cause partners have not declined, ClubCorp is committed to reaching our target in support of these important initiatives.”
