NEW OAKLEY SPECIAL EDITION SUNGLASSES
SUPPORT MDA ALS INITIATIVE

TUCSON, Ariz., Oct. 21, 2008 — Oakley has teamed up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to offer two special edition HIJINX sunglasses to support MDA’s aggressive, cure-driven ALS research initiative, Augie’s Quest.

With every sale of the new Augie’s Quest HIJINX sunglasses, Oakley will contribute $20 to the cause.

MDA’s Augie's Quest program, a fast-track research initiative aimed at finding therapies or a cure for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease), was started by Augie Nieto, 50, of Corona del Mar, Calif., through MDA after he received a diagnosis of ALS. Nieto is a fitness industry pioneer who co-founded Life Fitness, the world leader in commercial and home fitness equipment. Augie, and his wife, Lynne, serve as co-chairs for MDA’s ALS Division.

ALS destroys the nerve cells controlling muscles, ultimately causing complete paralysis while leaving mental function intact. Survival is typically two to five years after diagnosis, and no cure exists. ALS has severely affected Nieto’s body and speech.

"I'm extremely grateful to Oakley for creating these special edition sunglasses," Nieto said. "Not only do they combine great looks with the best sunglass technology, but they are also a fitting way to draw attention to our cause. MDA’s Augie's Quest is motivated by a bold vision of the day when the cure for ALS is found."

“Augie has been a longtime supporter of Oakley and we’re proud to team with him and MDA’s Augie’s Quest,” said Oakley CEO Scott Olivet. “We honor Augie’s contributions to the fitness industry, his inspiration as an individual and entrepreneur, and the innovation he has brought to medical research and fundraising. For more than 30 years, Oakley has made history and, with your help, we will make history in the war against ALS.”

The Augie’s Quest HIJINX sunglasses from Oakley are available in two styles, polarized and non-polarized. Each features its own Augie’s Quest design on the frames and lenses. Both are available at www.oakley.com/aq and select Oakley stores nationwide.
