MDA, HARLEY-DAVIDSON CELEBRATE
25-YEAR PARTNERSHIP
TUCSON, Ariz., Feb. 7, 2005 – Ten Harley-Davidson dealerships were honored recently by the Muscular Dystrophy Association, in commemoration of 25 years of partnership between the motorcycle company and the nonprofit health organization.
The top 10 dealers in raising funds for MDA in 2004 were recognized at the Harley-Davidson Winter Dealer Meeting in Grapevine, Texas.
The top dealers are: Mitchell’s Modesto Harley-Davidson, Modesto, Calif.; Jamestown Harley-Davidson, Jamestown, Calif.; Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson, Orwigsburg, Pa.; Kutter Harley-Davidson, Janesville, Wis.; Sauk Prairie Harley-Davidson, Sauk City, Wis.;
And Wild Boar Harley-Davidson, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Motor City Harley-Davidson, Farmington Hills, Mich.; Harley-Davidson of Salt Lake City; Cycle Connection Harley-Davidson, Joplin, Mo.; Lancaster Harley-Davidson, Willow Street, Pa.; Cajun Harley-Davidson, Scott, La.
“Harley-Davidson is one of MDA’s most prominent sponsors, and the untiring efforts of its dealers, employees and customers have helped bolster our service and research programs for nearly three decades,” MDA President & CEO Robert Ross said. “Whether raising funds for lifesaving research or entertaining youngsters at MDA summer camps, Harley-Davidson riders are always there for us, and we’re profoundly grateful.”
Harley-Davidson began its partnership with MDA in 1980 with a program called Bikers Fight MD. That year at the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon, Harley-Davidson representatives presented their first check to MDA for $185,000.
Since 1980, Harley-Davidson’s family of dealers, customers, employees, suppliers and H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) chapters have raised more than $50 million for “Jerry’s kids,” and, in 2004 alone, Harley-Davidson contributed $4 million.
Funds raised through hundreds of rides and other special events help support MDA’s worldwide research, comprehensive medical care for children and adults with neuromuscular diseases, the MDA summer camp program for youngsters and more.
Each year, Harley-Davidson riders visit MDA’s summer camps across the nation, giving sidecar rides, providing kids with temporary tattoos, hosting barbecues and letting the admiring youngsters sit on their motorcycles.
