Tributes from Friends of Ed McMahon
  • I am 31 years old and have been watching this telethon all of my life. I look forward to it every year. It is such an odd feeling to know that Ed McMahon won't be there this year. He was so much a part of the fabric of this wonderful telethon. It will be hard to hear the drum roll, and see the pledge numbers change, and not think of Ed from now on.

  • It will be hard to watch the telethon this year. My mother, Rochelle Halperin, and I watched every year together ever since I can remember. This year I lost my beloved mother in May at the age of 89 years young. So I thought, well, this year I watch alone and let Ed McMahon cheer me up. When Ed passed away I felt as tho I had lost another family member. So, I guess it's up to Jerry to make me feel better. I have just made a donation in Mom's memory. Over the years Ed and Jerry have done fabulous work together. Bless them both.

  • I would like to thank Ed for his service to the MDA. His untiring and selfless service is what made Jerry Lewis's MDA Telethon a success over the years. Surely God has given Ed a special place in his kingdom for this wonderful individual. Jerry we are all with you in celebrating Ed's life! While he will be missed, he is walking and talking with our Lord today. Let's continue to remember Ed's life and contribution by continuing to support MDA and Jerry's Kids. Keep on Trucking Jerry - We are almost there!

  • I've watched the Jerry Lewis Telethon since 1972, watching the tote board climb every year, even in the early days when they had to paint an extra digit (for the million mark) on the board. Ed McMahon has always been the anchor and brought us through the 20 some odd hours in triumph. It will feel different this year.

  • Mr. Ed. He's not there because he went to heaven to take care of Jerry's Kids. Thanks Mr. Ed.

  • Somehow, a piece of my life watching the telethon is now gone. Ed's wit and humor was a big part of the show. He always was there to keep Jerry going and somehow he always knew that the telethon would always make that dollar more. I will miss him very much. God Bless!

  • On this year's MDA Telethon, it will be hard to see the pledge board bring in another million dollars without the voice of Ed McMahon happily yelling in excitement, "Jerry, let's have a timpani roll and R-R-ROLL it!"

  • Ed has been on the telethon as long as I can remember...it will be difficult watching, without hearing his voice introduce us to the firefighters or the president and CEO of the Southland Corp. The only consolation we have is the fact that the pain and suffering, both physical and financial, that he went through the last couple of years is now over for him. And we can all smile through the tears when we realize that he is now once more with Johnny Carson. We all miss ya, big guy.

  • Hello. I have daughter with SMA type 2 and we were at a golf fundraiser here in Florida and my daughter and I got to meet Ed briefly and he gave my daughter his golf hat. He was a really cool guy and everybody that knew him loved him. I don't think a man like him could ever have a enemy. He is definitely remembered in this house and we love him dearly. Charlotte says "4" for you Ed in heaven because she knows you have the best greens up there.

    Love,

    Teresa and Charlotte Sherwood
