melh (Mar 17, 2008 8:52:34 PM)

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 8:52:39 PM)

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:09:33 PM)
please visit her website and see how "Normal" she looks! After jumping 5-10 times she cannot breathe, but she keeps going. At OT (which we have had for three weeks and this week is the last week) he allows her to rest after 10 repetitions and she uses it! But she won't stop unless you tell her too!

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:09:34 PM)
still had fun though

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:09:53 PM)

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:21:52 PM)
I have some MNGIE symptoms but not the mutation perse... Riley son I believe does...

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:22:11 PM)
but looking into it further

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:22:19 PM)
my gi doc treats it i know

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:22:30 PM)
It is not any worse or better than any of the other KNOWN mutations mylil....

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:22:34 PM)
does he have symptoms or the mutation

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:22:51 PM)
hes got symtpoms

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:22:56 PM)
everything still gets treated bysymptom

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:23:04 PM)
dont know about the mutation yet

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:23:23 PM)
that is one they can get from blood

emtdas (Mar 17, 2008 9:23:34 PM)
(This user has entered Mitochondrial Chat)

emtdas (Mar 17, 2008 9:23:37 PM)

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:24:25 PM)
Lepragans (can't spell) at work

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:24:35 PM)
make sure they do it BEFORE the nerve conduction test!!!

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:24:42 PM)
oh my lf lol

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:24:46 PM)
ok

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:24:51 PM)
you bet lf...

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:25:23 PM)
He is young for nerve conduction study...

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:25:30 PM)
hood, what kind of classical music, do you know, piano, violin?

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:25:38 PM)
what are you going to gain by doing that.

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:25:47 PM)
i dont know

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:25:55 PM)
asked they said he really needs it

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:26:01 PM)
Louann plays the piano beautifully... I'm not sure if the cd will include other instruments or not.

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:26:21 PM)
thats one of the tests i don't allow them to do anymore. i don't see the point for me

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:26:51 PM)
I would ask further mylil... that was one of the most painful tests I had and in the end they didn't gain anything otherthan the "residents" getting experience...

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:27:00 PM)
there is a mito mom in Indy who plays the violin (I think she is concertmaster??), actually, I think she stops in here every now and then... anyways, maybe we should get them together

emtdas (Mar 17, 2008 9:27:08 PM)
we had it done once and that wuz it .. he just had it done a few weeks ago now they wanna do it again

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:27:09 PM)
my neuro doesn't see any reason to do them. I have had them in the past

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:27:15 PM)
cool

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:27:18 PM)
they said he has neuropathy

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:27:38 PM)
yeah... we all have neuropathy...

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:27:41 PM)
this is the same mom whose husband and their daughter's mito are being linked together - paternally inherited - second identified

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:28:07 PM)
what do you mean second identified melh?

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:28:12 PM)
i know someone who got it from her dad

emtdas (Mar 17, 2008 9:28:13 PM)
yes but if its not going to improve his function theres no point in putting him through it esp since he just had it done and are they willing to tell u yet the results of the last one

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:28:35 PM)
there are many known cases of paternal inheritence it is just not common

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:28:52 PM)
I guess it is the second for this type of mito...

scrod (Mar 17, 2008 9:29:18 PM)
given that mitochondrial DNA is only maternal inheritance, not sure how that works?

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:29:26 PM)
i asked childens today and said it wasnt conclusive so they have to do ti again where conly can read it her self

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:29:33 PM)
mylil at this point you know the beast has a name... time to change focus for zack to what will help him... is it a treatment oriented test, and HOW???

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:29:34 PM)
Our mito gurus were sharing it with us, of course with no names or identifing markers, but we know the family...

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:29:41 PM)
if a bit of the sperms tail enters the egg, scrod

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:30:40 PM)
i agree with hood. they will turn him into a guinea if you let them

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:30:42 PM)
I wouldn't do it mylil... they just want to compare... you will know over time and you don't need those needle stuck in your nerves and electricity put through them to tell you you are numb, tingly, jumpy, etc...

scrod (Mar 17, 2008 9:30:42 PM)
Thanks LF.

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:30:47 PM)
pig i mean

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:31:12 PM)
Interesting, I got the "education" from Kendall about how they used to think that all mito DNA was from mom but now they know that the mom provides the most, but not all (if I got my info correct) our local doc explained it this way too

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:31:26 PM)
there are many ways scrod... scientist know that some of the sperm "tail" goes into the egg... this carries the fathers dna

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:31:32 PM)
has anyone had an echocardiogram done or something like that

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:31:41 PM)
since mito have 2 sets of dna it is possible...

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:31:49 PM)
every year lk

emtdas (Mar 17, 2008 9:31:53 PM)
yes lk mine get them annually

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:31:55 PM)
we do echos yearly

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:31:55 PM)

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:31:57 PM)

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:32:07 PM)
blake is having one tomorrow

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:32:08 PM)
every year lk

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:32:11 PM)
and whats it for

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:32:15 PM)
easiest test I think Natalie has

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:32:16 PM)
they are easy and painfree

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:32:19 PM)
i asked them if they were goign to be his primary nuero and they said no they are just doing diagnostic for his reg neuro

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:32:19 PM)
it is an ultrasound of the heart

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:32:20 PM)
is blake your child?

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:32:40 PM)
yes my son

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:32:44 PM)
mylil did you tell them that you are not going back to your neuro?

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:33:05 PM)
and you don't know what the test is he is having tomorrow? How old is he?

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:33:13 PM)
what are they looking for

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:33:17 PM)
hes 2

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:33:25 PM)
he is a lot like Natalie at that age

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:33:26 PM)
size of the heart, function of the valves

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:33:31 PM)
blake, I mean

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:33:37 PM)
lk they are just looking at his heart like a regular ultrasound. its common

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:33:46 PM)
how do you prepare him for these tests if you don't know??

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:33:51 PM)
it is recommended for mito patients

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:34:02 PM)
we get to watch a video during ours

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:34:21 PM)
they are going to put cold gooey jelly all over his chest and stomach and then take a wand and look inside

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:34:22 PM)
Anyone made the big purchase yet???!!!

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:34:30 PM)
A Webkinz??

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:34:30 PM)
we went to a new pediatrician today and he ordered one just to make sure everything is ok

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:34:33 PM)
????

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:34:39 PM)
when i was little the cardio dept would give me a crown to wear during my tests and make me queen. i loved going lol

scrod (Mar 17, 2008 9:34:44 PM)
we have 3 in the house mel

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:34:58 PM)
good to have... did the pediatrician say he had any concerns about his heart?

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:34:59 PM)
so, what is it?

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:35:27 PM)
he will have to be very still...

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:35:27 PM)
yeah, i'd be embarassed to share how many we have... just let me say that it makes medical testing more "rewarding"

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:35:38 PM)
no webkinz but i tried guitar hero and dance revolution last. i sstink at it lol

emtdas (Mar 17, 2008 9:35:53 PM)
we had a colleciton of ty beanies from the hospital

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:36:03 PM)
lol ... now that is something they should have at the next convention.

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:36:04 PM)
we have that

emtdas (Mar 17, 2008 9:36:05 PM)

I have two webkinz myself now!

emtdas (Mar 17, 2008 9:36:20 PM)
is anyone goign to the conference

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:36:20 PM)

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:36:31 PM)
Great idea Hood!! We are looking for ideas at the Indiana chapter!!

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:36:32 PM)
I am going for all 4 days

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:36:33 PM)
to far for me to travel...

scrod (Mar 17, 2008 9:36:47 PM)
I wish we could

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:36:57 PM)
Need to get WII there as well... tat would be cool!

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:37:08 PM)
no ive been trying to find a doctor that will research mito and listen to me when he is sick and i think i finally found one and he just wants to do a few test and just make sure there isn't a problem with the heart and few other things

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:37:11 PM)
lf, do you have to have a medical something to get into the medical end of it?

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:37:24 PM)
im going to try dont know if i can find sitter

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:37:43 PM)
guitar hero is hard with a numb hand lol. the five year old was better than me

scrod (Mar 17, 2008 9:37:50 PM)
I miss indyu. Somebody go to Shapiro's and have a sandwich and a stuffed egg for me

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:37:54 PM)
you can register, and pay more, but it is very technical at times

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:38:09 PM)
that is good lkommer...but don't forget in the heat of things to ask what stuff is and what is going to happen... can be scary for kids...especially little kids

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:38:48 PM)
Make sure the gel is warm - not hot - not that they say it is

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:39:11 PM)
well i missed the call from doc and called hosp which left mes and they told me what test was and wont talk to doc office till it opens in morning or i would have known

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:39:28 PM)
tell him they are taking really cool pictures and that he can see if he stays really still

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:39:29 PM)
gotcha..

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:39:46 PM)
they tried to get it in this week cause we are going on vacation next week

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:39:48 PM)
scrod, how old are the users of webkinz in your home?

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:40:07 PM)
he wont understand anything about the pics of it

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:40:07 PM)
got a question what happens if his iron is high for a long period of time

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:40:10 PM)
use the magic wand to look inside his body... he should be able to get that...

scrod (Mar 17, 2008 9:40:46 PM)
Mel - 41, 10 , 6

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:40:48 PM)
he will probably hear a whooshing sound

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:40:49 PM)
if iron is high for a long period depending on how high first needs to be removed from formula/ tpn etc.. may need to be chelated out of his system.

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:40:53 PM)
lk- often they do an ekg when they do an echo, at least for ours they do. that is the 20 stickers all over his chest for a minute or two. Natalie does not like stickers so we do this first and get it over with

scrod (Mar 17, 2008 9:41:09 PM)
my wife's age was published in MDA mag, soooo I can share it.

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:41:19 PM)
hes had that done before

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:41:21 PM)
you can ask the tech to turn the volume down if it scares him... they have headphones they can wear

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:41:25 PM)
yeah 33, 11, 6 here scrod!

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:41:34 PM)
lol scrod...

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:41:42 PM)
his iron has been removed from tpn since nov but hte levels arent coming dowm

emtdas (Mar 17, 2008 9:41:57 PM)
take lots of stickers and when hes good no matter if u have to use 30 stickers give him them decorate him and u make it fun the better the pictures the better the results

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:42:02 PM)
its still really high

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:42:07 PM)
is he getting any other sources... multivit???

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:42:12 PM)
what is really high?

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:42:19 PM)
transfusions?

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:42:21 PM)
his iron level

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:42:30 PM)
what is the Number?

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:42:40 PM)
the webkinz would end up dead with my firby and cosmo the electronic dog

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:42:52 PM)
what is a webkinz

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:42:56 PM)
no... doesn not need transfusion for high iron... need chelation to take iron out.

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:43:00 PM)
i dont know just the dr said its high and needs to be looked at

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:43:22 PM)
do you get copies of the labs mylil?

scrod (Mar 17, 2008 9:43:22 PM)
EMT - good idea. We actually had our son cover a full page wiht stickers before he got a bigger prize at age 4/5. he did not win until he had no paper showing.

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:43:32 PM)
Now, we talked about this last week... they do not runaway, get kidnapped, or die!! The best part!! And sometimes they do get sick, but you click the button to take them to the doctors and voila!

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:43:40 PM)
no

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:43:46 PM)
lf i think its some kind of computer character that you can interact with

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:44:09 PM)
ok

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:44:10 PM)
thanks jenn

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:44:21 PM)
sorry, i was wondering if he had a transfusion lateley that they didn't take the iron out, or whatever they do with that

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:44:22 PM)
I would ask primary to start sending you copies of all labs... that way you can follow his hi's and low's ebbs and flows.

mylilangel05 (Mar 17, 2008 9:45:09 PM)
but his hemaglobins are low

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:45:16 PM)
there are a few mito moms I meet on webkinz world and we can play games together and we send each other flowers and such

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:45:43 PM)
do you buy them???

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:46:06 PM)
yeah, about $10-15 and they are suscribed for a year

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:46:08 PM)
if h/h is low... need to know number.... then it could be an issue of utilization of iron... ie his body stores it and doesn't utilize it.

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:46:17 PM)
oh ok

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:46:31 PM)
see mine wouldn't die, it would get unsubscribed lol

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:46:33 PM)
hood, it sounds like you might be on to something...

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:46:51 PM)
lf didn't you have that problem when you were younger? storing iron in your marrow and not utilizing it?

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:46:54 PM)
jenn, lol

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:47:05 PM)
okay, jenn, I surrender, after a year it might get.... (crying) unsubscribed

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:47:06 PM)
lol jenn

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:47:19 PM)
As an adult - only younger, hood

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:47:34 PM)
how did they treat you for that lf?

scrod (Mar 17, 2008 9:47:36 PM)
whoa Mel, I didn't realize we are locked into re-upping. if I don't do that they will die without care. crud!

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 9:48:03 PM)
no iron for years and years and monitored with iron studies

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:48:17 PM)
believe me by that time guys your kids will have moved onto other things... the new fad coming around the bend...lol they won't care... LOL

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:48:25 PM)
if my cat didn't bug me i would forget to feed her and my bamboo is only alove bc it can survive without water for a week. no more pets for me lol

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:48:33 PM)
If you all need help, I will babysit for webkinz while you are out... A mito mom in GA feeds ours and cares for the garden when we are in the hospital

scrod (Mar 17, 2008 9:48:42 PM)
hmm, hoodie, have you met my kids?

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:48:43 PM)
lol jenn...

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:48:53 PM)
not in person...

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:49:10 PM)
do you have to keep up with them everyday

scrod (Mar 17, 2008 9:49:15 PM)
they kinda latch onto things. and dont let go

scrod (Mar 17, 2008 9:49:35 PM)
yeah, they measure health hunger and happiness (?)

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 9:49:42 PM)
oh

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:49:45 PM)
scrod, all you have to do is buy another one and it keeps your account open....... that's all...... they are not so great about telling you that though, becasue you are so interested in all the other stuff going on

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 9:49:55 PM)
I had a pet rock when I was little.... didn't cost a thing... I painted new outfits on it all the time... took it everywhere...

emtdas (Mar 17, 2008 9:50:10 PM)
lol hoodie

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 9:50:15 PM)
barbies and matchbox were easier

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:54:24 PM)

melh (Mar 17, 2008 9:55:00 PM)
I asked her if she wanted to keep a cat for the dogs to chase, and she said not in my house!

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 10:01:07 PM)

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 10:01:10 PM)

scrod (Mar 17, 2008 10:03:00 PM)

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 10:04:17 PM)
sunday

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 10:04:22 PM)
we flew a lot and the stewardess would always put papertowels that had been soaked in HOT water in the bottom of a styrofoam cut... I'd hold them over my ears on take off and landing and it made a HUGE difference

Jennifer-S (Mar 17, 2008 10:04:30 PM)
hirano first and then lots of eye tests

lfitzger (Mar 17, 2008 10:04:43 PM)

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 10:05:08 PM)

hoodlum (Mar 17, 2008 10:05:17 PM)
the other thing would be to keep him on decongestants during the trip... the drier he is the less popping

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 10:05:39 PM)
we are starting him on singular

lkommer (Mar 17, 2008 10:05:44 PM)
